Sure, bankruptcy can easily solve debt problems, but I wasn’t sure how or why it protected a security clearance. So I asked some questions of several of the ones that wanted to file to protect a security clearance.
Each one of them told me that the people that grant or deny the clearance told them to pay the debt or file bankruptcy, or else they’d lose their clearance. But, I asked why bankruptcy works. Each one said that there is a risk that someone who is stressed out over debt problems may sell access, information or do something illegal. By filing bankruptcy, they eliminate that risk and protect their clearance.
